Maharashtra State Schemes for Persons with Disabilities


1. State Disability Pension
This is known as Niradhar Anudan Yojna  in the state of Maharashtra. The state government of Maharashtra provides financial assistance to destitute persons, blind, disabled, orphan children, persons suffering from major illnesses, divorced women, abandoned women, women freed from prostitution, outraged women, Transgender, etc. As per th Government Resolutions –circulars :
GR No.Visayo-2010/CR 175/Visayo-2 Dated - 26 October,2010
Gr No.Visayo -2011/ CR 127/Visayo-2 Dated 31 October,2011
Each applicant will get Rs. 600/- per month and Family with more than one beneficiary will get Rs .900/- per month.

Eligibility Criteria
  1. Destitute persons, blind, disabled, orphan children, persons suffering from major illnesses, divorced women, abandoned women, women freed from prostitution, outraged women, Transgender, etc.
  2. Minimum 40% of disability
  3. Below age of 65 years
  4. Annual family income upto Rs 21,000/-
  5. Resident of the state
Documents Required
  1. Certificate of Residence
  2. Certificate of Age
  3. Certificate of Income /Proof of Below Poverty Line family
  4. Certificate of Incapacity /Disease - issued by the Civil Surgeon and Medical Superintendent of the Government Hospital.
Procedure for application
The applicant needs to visit to the Talathi /Tahsildar of the respective village and contact to district social welfare officer of respective district.
Mode of payment
The amount will be credited to the saving bank account or account in post office of the applicant.



2.  Bus concession
The Maharashtra State Road Transport is giving 75% concession in bus fares to people with blindness and 50% concession to their attendants.

Eligibility Criteria
1.     40%  and above disability
2.     Resident of the state
  1. Disability Identity cards issued by district social welfare office.
Documents required
  1. Passport size photo
  2. Residence proof (those who are staying in the special school, the address proof can be given of the school)
  3. Disability certificate
Procedure for application
The applicant needs to visit the District Social Welfare Office to get the disability identity card and afterwards apply to the state transport depot for the bus pass. General Manager of the depot will issue the pass. Each district has depot which issues travelling pass with validity of five years.



3.  Educational Scholarship
The students with disabilities are entitled to get scholarship from the state government for their education for class from 1st to post graduate courses/degree. This scheme is not applicable for those students who are studying in state government Blind school with all facilities available free of cost. 

Rate of scholarship as per the class
a)      1st to 4th std.  :  amount is Rs 50/- per month
b)      5th to 7th std.  :  amount is Rs 75/- per month
c)      8th to 10th std. : amount is Rs 100/- per month

2.     Minimum 40% of Disability
3.     Resident of the state
4.     Student must have scored passing marks in previous annual examination

Documents required
1.     Disability certificate
2.     Income certificate
3.     Statement of mark sheet
4.     Resident proof

Procedure for application
Application will be submitted to District Social Welfare office of concerned district through the institutions of the student where he/she is admitted. Grant will be sanctioned by the social welfare department and provided to the institutions once in a year.

Mode of payment

The annual amount will be credited to the saving bank account or account in post office of the student with disabilities.


4.  Unemployment allowance: State has stopped implementing the unemployment allowance as per the latest update in 2013.

5.  Incentive for marriage between disabled and non-disabled is not available in the state of Maharashtra
